Stairways can be updated while keeping your railing. We recently updated a banister by removing the carpet that wrapped around the stair edges. The owner of the home wanted a cost effective way to improve the looks of her stairs. We did this by installing tread caps on the stairs with a skirt board on the wall. . we where able to match the stain color of the existing posts and railings and painted the skirt board white.
